Under the direction of the Operations Director, the Gymnastics Director is responsible for the planning, development, supervision, and evaluation of all YMCA gymnastics programs, including both recreational classes and competitive team programs. This role ensures a safe, high-quality, and engaging environment that fosters the physical, emotional, and social development of youth participants in alignment with the YMCA’s mission and values.
Staff Development:
- Recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling and managing a high performing staff focused on providing exceptional service and instruction and work well as a team.
- Developing strategies to provide support and motivation to staff for the achievement of goals and retention.
- Reviewing and evaluating staff performance.
- Developing strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Maintaining staff retention through positive reinforcement and support.
- Responsible for documenting staff meetings/development and training.
Program Operations:
- Effectively communicating the mission, vision and values of the YMCA of Austin, MN.
- Ensuring all programs comply with YMCA standards and methods of operation.
- Integrating member-service and engagement strategies into all programs to ensure positive member recruitment and retention.
- Monitoring and evaluating delivery and effectiveness of programs and continually strive to attain the highest possible level of program quality.
- Building and expanding the program enrollment and participation.
- Keeping accurate records of attendance, retention, member and non-member participation.
- Ensuring progress reports are distributed consistently to program participants.
- Being visible to staff and members.
- Responding to all members and community inquiries and concerns within a reasonable timeframe.
- Communicating program information, changes and needs in a timely manner.
- Providing effective and timely communication to all participants regarding program schedules, practices, policies and expectations.
Fiscal Management:
- Developing, monitoring and meeting or exceeding budget targets.
- Producing effective and efficient staff schedules within set payroll budget parameters.
Facilities Development:
- Maintaining complete familiarity with all risk management procedures and policies.
- Maintaining the program area and equipment in an orderly, clean and safe condition; reporting any irregularities to maintenance personnel.
- Keeping an up-to-date inventory on all equipment, materials and supplies.
- Serving as a member of the leadership team and performing specific duties which support the overall success of YMCA operations.
- Communicating effectively with the Operations Director and CEO regarding program information and facility needs to maintain safe and effective programming.
Qualifications
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Minimum age of 21
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Relevant department experience in sport
- Previous experience supervising staff
Job Requirements:
- Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
- Complete CPR/AED, First Aid, O2, and Listen First Workshop in accordance to Conditions of Employment
- Understand and abide by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
- Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch, including evenings and weekends
Essential Functions
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Must be able to routinely perform the following physical activities as dictated by sport; run, jump climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand, walk and perform moderate physical activity for extended periods of time, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity
- Must be able to lead and coach teams and individuals and have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Must possess mental alertness, problem solving and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
